On Holy and Great Friday we commemorate the Holy, Saving, and awful Passion of our Lord and God and Saviour Jesus Christ.
For us He willingly endured the spittings, the scourging, the buffetings, the scorn, the mocking, and the purple robe; the reed, the sponge, the vinegar, the nails, the spear, and above all, the Cross and Death.
Also we commemorate the confession on the Cross unto salvation of the penitent thief, who was crucified with Him.
On the evening of Holy Friday we sing the "Lamentations", in front of the Tomb of our Lord:
