Works continue...

We still have various works to complete before we declare the end of our sacred and great project.

The drainage needs some attention; thus certain specialists are looking into it.

The columns in various parts of the exterior of our new Church need cleaning as well as filling in some gaps.

The extension of the first floor of the Community building is also being in the last stages of getting ready for use.

Columns on the Facade

The foreman Mick and the employee Adrian are working the last few days on the Facade.

They are filling in the small holes and gaps on the columns, in order to complete their final presentation.

Columns in the front

The works are continuing in our new Church.

One of the elements in the Facade that make the Church look very nice is the columns.

These are nicely prepared by our dedicated workers and soon will be ready.

Column capitals are fixed

The time has now come for new kinds of works to start in the interior of our new Church.

The column capitals have started from today being fixed in their place.

As we’ve mentioned before these are the product and offering of Mr. Christos Orthodoxou, a Church Committee member.

Mimis and Vasilis are the two workers who are placing them on the top of the columns.

Columns’ capitals

In various traditions of architecture including Classical architecture, the capital (from the Latin caput, 'head') forms the crowning member of a column. In the Greek language the capital is called “kionokrano” (κιονόκρανο), meaning the helmet of the column.

The capital projects on each side as it rises, to support the abacus and unite the form of the latter (normally square) with the circular shaft of the column.

From the prominent position it occupies in all monumental buildings, the capital is often selected for ornamentation, and is often the clearest indicator of the architectural order.

We have now in our new Church some of the capitals that will be used to decorate the columns. They are made at the workshop of Mr. Christos Orthodoxou, a prominent member of our Church Committee, who is generously offering them for our new place of worship.
