The very first Divine Liturgy

Today we celebrated the very first Divine Liturgy at our new Church.

Obviously the building it is not ready as yet. We still need to do a lot of works to make it properly usable.

But it was an excellent opportunity for our members to experience a full Holy Service in the new building.

Although the weather was not very complimentary, the atmosphere was very warm spiritually.

At the end of the Service the President of the Community, Mr. Pantelis Demosthenous, had greeted the congregation and reminded everyone about our duty to support financially the sacred project.

Then Mr. Demosthenous, accompanied by the Vice-Presidents, Mr. Andreas Georgiades and Mr. Petros Christofi, kindly thanked the Parish Priest Fr. Anastasios and his family for serving the Church and the Community for 18 years and they offered a very nice present to Fr. Anastasios and Presvytera Virginia.

The Service was attended by the Greek-American comedian Basile, who greeted the congregation with very nice words.

DAY OF CYPRUS

Today we had a full day at our Church and Community.

A whole morning Holy Service, which had finished with a special prayer for the Day of Cyprus, celebrated today at our Community.

Dr Nicky Katsaouni, Cultural Counsellor of the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus in the UK, came and gave us an excellent talk on “The Sound and Logos of Cyprus”.

Ladies of our Community (Virginia Salapatas, Anna Anastasi and Nitsa Liasi) had prepared sweets and sold them outside the temporary Church in financial support of our sacred project.

Then we had lunch at our Community building, in honour of Dr Katsaouni.

The weather was just good and that was a blessing, as many people stayed on the balcony of our Community building admiring our new Church.

Archbishop’s visit

His Eminence the Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain has visited our Church today.

He presided at the Pontifical Mass and at the end he granted spiritual gifts to our Parish Priest Fr. Anastasios by offering him the title and the officium of “Protopresbyter”, the highest title a married Priest can get, and then he blessed 4 Altar Servers and made them "Readers" of our Church. These are Alexandros Mateides, Stefanos Pouros, Nicholas Charalambous and Alexandros Charalambous.

Everyone was made to feel very happy today.

Our congregation was honoured to received His Eminence and to witness the granting of those important byzantine titles.
