Roof painting

The roof of the new Church entrance is being painted for the last couple of days.

It really needs three coats for the white paint to show nicely on that roof.

The person painting is Adrian, a Romanian young man who works devoutly at our Church for quite some time.

At some point in the future we may decide to paint that area with a different kind of painting; probably byzantine icon-painting or at least some kind of byzantine decorations.

Inside / Outside

I visited our new Church a few times today. It was really very busy everywhere.

In the front some workers where fixing the arches on the Facade.

On the top of the roof a roofer was fixing a part of the roof in order to put there the red tiles.

At the back of the Sanctuary a copper engineer was fixing his materials on the small semi dome.

Moving inside I spoke with the plasterers, who said that in two days I shall “see the back of them”!

Because of the fact that plastering has almost been completed other workers were dismantling the scaffolding.

It was really quite emotional to see how it looks now in there. The Dome appears in its splendour and the whole of the interior in front of us, in white colour, symbolising purity. A really fantastic sight.

Copper and stone

The work if focused on the roof today, where many workers are occupied with various important works.

The “hand of God” is here again transferring stone on the main Dome.

Specialists preparing the copper on the roof and others are fixing it on the central Dome.

The roof gets quite busy

It is really busy and crowdie today up on the roof of our new place of worship.

The red tile layer is fixing the tiles on the front timber roof.

He is working under the sun, but it is also quite chilly.

The crane is transferring stone up there, especially on the Bell Tower.

The main Dome is occupied by the specialists who take up and put in their place the copper leaves.

It is interesting to note that the copper started changing its colour already.

Live on the Church roof

A photograph has obviously great impact and it is regarded as equal to 1000 words. A video though is even better, as it shows moving pictures and come present a whole area or a story in a very graphic way.

Thus, we thought of taking a short video today, showing what happens up on our new Church’s roof and how it looks at this moment.

Tiles on the roof

At the end of last week the crane put the red tiles on the roof of our new Church.

Our dedicated workes started then distributing them on the specific areas where they should go.

Then, from yesterday they started laying and fixing them in their place.

Men Working!

I was very joyful to see at the entrance of our building site today the panel with the details about our building programme showing “10” more weeks to go up to the completion of the works.

It was a great feeling to realise that we come close to the finishing point of our great project, of our grand dream.

Then, as I was looking at the building site, just outside of the new Church, I’ve noticed the truck of the scaffolding company which had the emphatic inscription at its rear “MEN WORKING”, with one exclamation mark on each side of the inscription.

It is more than certain that the building industry is still a very manly world.

Many modern women may not like this, but the work being very demanding and hard obviously needs very strong human beings to work in it.

Bricklaying, plastering and roof works are still in progress, all being in the final stages.

Today’s action

It is very busy today at our building site.

The brick arches that arrived yesterday are moved from outside into the Church and are being installed.

They are really very heavy. The hands of our strong workers as well as special equipment are used to lift them up.

The roof is currently being felt and battened and temporary waterproofing installed.

Some work is also being done at the new Church’s Office.

12 weeks to go

Today I visited, for the first time after my holidays, all parts of our new Church building.

The welcoming sign reminded me of the fact that we are in the closing phase of the building process.

Twelve more weeks to go before we get the key and start using our new Church for the Community worship.

Then I went up on the roof and saw from very close the progress of the main roof works, as well as of the Dome and the Bell Tower.

The workers are operating at the moment on the very top of every part of the building. We should pray for their strength and well being.

Front Pitch roof

The front side of the barrel roof is being transformed with the timber frame.

The barrel roof is important for the interior of the Church, as it is much better and more appropriate to paint icons on it.

But the pitch roof is much better on the outside.

It is certainly a much better sight and with its various corners it emphasize the cross shape of a traditional Byzantine Church.

Carpenters were working today on the roof of our new Church.

As we had written before they prepare the so-called pitch roof.

This is an important element of the structure of the Church, which will emphasize the traditional cross shape of the roof.

Bell Tower & roof

Although there was a short rainfall this morning the work has continued as normal on our building site.

It is nice to see to Bell Tower having been almost fully bricklayed today.

Carpenters also are on the roof placing there the timber frame.

This will be placed on the barrel roof and will certainly give a completely different impression on it.

The pitch roof, with the traditional red tiles on it, will obviously emphasize the cross shape of the roof and of the whole structure.

Electricians are also on the roof today, placing tubes there.

Timber frame on the roof

The timber frame started today being fixed on the barrel roof.

During next week this work will progress rapidly.

A skilful and certainly fearless specialist was also working on the very top of the Dome, preparing it for another layer of wood.

Up on the roof...

...again today, to have a closer look at certain parts of the building.

One of the arches was fitted on the Bell Tower yesterday and looks good.

The Dome has now been nicely covered by the various layers of insulation and wood.
